Local apprentices with the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 45 are assisting in the construction of the Savannah Aquatic Center, with many being local graduates who opted for careers in the trades. Retired pipefitter Rick Hummer highlighted the high demand for skilled trades and the positive impact of apprenticeships. Savannah Aquatic Center manager Diane Gould praised the mentorship provided by Hummer and emphasized the importance of trade careers as viable alternatives to traditional university paths. The center is set to open on May 26th, providing a valuable opportunity for apprentices to contribute to their community and develop their skills.
