Missouri Department of Transportation sees rise in drivers crashing into ‘TMA’s’

The Missouri Department of Transportation has released video footage of drivers crashing into Truck Mounted Attenuators (TMAs) in work zones. The number of crashes involving TMAs has been on the rise, with 50 reported in 2025, up from 34 in 2024. Distracted driving and speeding are major contributors to work zone crashes, with 24 people killed in Missouri work zone crashes in 2025. MoDOT has been adding more TMAs to its fleet to protect workers, following a tragic crash in 2021 that killed two workers and injured another. With crashes into TMAs increasing, MoDOT and advocates are urging drivers to slow down and pay attention in work zones to prevent further tragedies.
