Chiefs Plates Could Be Phased Out by 2026 Under New Missouri Bill

Missouri House Speaker Pro‑Tem Chad Perkins, R-Bowling Green, has filed a bill to end Chiefs-branded Missouri license plates by August 2026, ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs’ relocation to Kansas in 2031. The proposed bill would terminate any emblem agreement with the team and prevent the issuance of new license plates with the Chiefs’ emblem. Missouri drivers can currently obtain specialty Chiefs plates for a fee, but the team’s departure has prompted legislative action to sever official ties with the Chiefs. Other proposed legislation includes changing the state’s “official football team” from the Chiefs to the Battlehawks.
