Atchison County 911/Emergency Management Agency (911/EMA) has been awarded the storm ready certification by the National Weather Service (NWS) for the sixth consecutive time. The county is one of Missouri’s first recipients of this designation in 2007. To be considered a storm ready community, the agency must demonstrate proficiency in receiving and disseminating severe weather information to the public and local first responders. Atchison County utilizes the Everbridge system for alerting the public and local first responders, and is also an ambassador to the Weather Ready Nation (WRN) initiative. Missouri’s statewide tornado drill will be held on March 4, providing an opportunity for residents to practice their sheltering plans and ensure readiness for severe weather emergencies.
