Herzog Contracting Corp., in partnership with the Missouri Department of Transportation, is scheduled to begin a resurfacing project on U.S. Route 136 starting Tuesday, March 10.
The project spans Atchison and Nodaway counties, covering the stretch of U.S. 136 from Interstate 29 in Rock Port to U.S. Route 71 east of Burlington Junction.
Motorists should expect significant traffic impacts through July 2026. U.S. Route 136 will be narrowed to one lane, with flaggers and a pilot car directing traffic through the work zone. Additionally, temporary traffic signals will be installed at the bridge over I-29 in Rock Port.
Safety measures will be strictly enforced within the project limits. The speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph, and a 10-foot width restriction will be in place for all vehicles.
Construction is scheduled to take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday. A second phase of the project, which involves resurfacing U.S. Route 71 from the Iowa state line to Route CC north of Maryville, is expected to begin in late May 2026.
All work is weather-permitting and subject to change. MoDOT officials remind motorists to stay focused, slow down, and move over when driving through work zones.
